// VISA SPONSORSHIP GUIDE

How UK Visa Sponsorship Works

Everything you need to know about getting sponsored for a Skilled Worker visa.

What is Visa Sponsorship?

To work in the UK on a Skilled Worker visa, you need a licensed sponsor - an employer approved by the Home Office to hire international workers. The sponsor issues you a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), which you use to apply for your visa.

Good news: Over 123,000 UK employers are licensed sponsors, including major companies, NHS trusts, universities, and SMEs.

Eligibility Requirements

1

Job Offer

You must have a genuine job offer from a licensed sponsor for an eligible occupation.

2

Salary Threshold

Your salary must meet the minimum threshold - currently £33,400 for new entrants or £41,700 for experienced workers (or the going rate for your role, whichever is higher).

3

English Language

You must prove your English language ability (often met by having a degree taught in English).

4

Maintenance Funds

You need £1,270 in your bank account for 28 days (unless your sponsor certifies maintenance).

2025 Salary Thresholds

New Entrant Rate

£33,400

For those under 26, switching from student visa, or in professional training.

Standard Rate

£41,700

For experienced workers who don't qualify for the new entrant rate.

Some roles have higher "going rates" based on SOC codes. The actual minimum is the higher of the threshold and the going rate.
